Ukrtelecom, Ukraine's national fixed line operator and part of SCM, has been approved for membership in the FTTH Council Europe. This leading industry organisation unites operators, equipment manufacturers, investors, and experts dedicated to the development and scaling of Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) networks and digital infrastructure across Europe.
This membership marks a significant milestone in Ukrtelecom's ongoing integration into the European telecommunications community. It aligns seamlessly with the strategic vision of our shareholder, Rinat Akhmetov, which directs SCM companies to actively integrate with European institutions and contribute to shared continental resilience.
Yuriy Kurmaz, CEO of Ukrtelecom, emphasised that joining the FTTH Council Europe provides new avenues for collaboration with European partners to build modern optical infrastructure. He highlighted that Ukrtelecom systematically expands its FTTH network to ensure stable and high-speed internet access, even under the most severe conditions. The practical experience Ukraine has gained in developing and sustaining telecommunications infrastructure during russia's war is entirely unique to the European market. Ukrtelecom is fully prepared to share this hard-won knowledge while simultaneously adopting the best international practices to further develop next-generation networks.
The FTTH Council Europe also expressed strong support for the new partnership. Vincent Garnier, Director General of the FTTH Council Europe, stated that the organisation has worked closely with Ukrtelecom since 2022 and highly values the relationship. He noted that Ukrtelecom brings crucial expertise and a highly relevant perspective to the European telecommunications sector. Furthermore, the Council acknowledged the exceptional resilience of the company and its proven ability to construct and maintain critical infrastructure amidst the extreme challenges of wartime operations.
Ukrtelecom remains a key driver of Ukraine's digital infrastructure and a consistent investor in optical technologies. The operational results demonstrate this commitment. In 2025, the company deployed 4,500 kilometres of fibre-optic cable, increasing the total length of its optical network to approximately 93,000 kilometres. The network's coverage now extends to 3.4 million households nationwide, and users of optical internet currently represent more than 80 percent of the company's subscriber base.
Crucially, these modern optical services provide essential connectivity not only to residential and commercial users but also to critical infrastructure. Ukrtelecom currently supports 1,388 medical facilities and 1,926 educational institutions. By continuously advancing GPON technology, the company delivers internet speeds of up to 1 Gbps across the country.
By actively participating in European industry councils, SCM companies are reinforcing their commitment to building a deeply integrated, highly secure, and modern digital infrastructure that benefits both Ukraine and its European partners.
