Ukrtelecom continues to provide internet services to 90% of settlements covered by its network before the full-scale Russian invasion, restore infrastructure damaged by the enemy, develop the optical network, attract new subscribers, and provide regular support to Ukraine’s defence forces.
Operating efficiency
The company maintains a consistently high level of operating efficiency. In H1 2024, Ukrtelecom generated a total revenue of almost UAH 2.3 billion, its EBITDA amounted to around UAH 620 million, with an EBITDA margin of 27%.
The capital investments exceeded UAH 585 million.
The company consistently meets its obligations to the state, having paid over UAH 660 million in taxes to the budgets of all levels in H1 2024 alone.
Optical infrastructure development
Over the recent years, Ukrtelecom has been replacing copper cables and developing a new modern optical infrastructure, investing in development of FTTH/P network based on GPON technology. This architecture and technology are a strategic focus for the company to ensure sustainable and quality provision of telecom services. This year alone, Ukrtelecom has already built about 4,000 km of fibre-optic lines, and its entire optical network extends more than 84,000 km.
Attracting new subscribers
New connections are growing, consequently increasing the overall revenue from optical internet services. In H1 2024 YoY, there has been a 16% increase in new optical internet subscribers from the retail segment, small, and medium-sized enterprises. As a result, revenue from optical internet services to this category of users grew by 15.5% YoY. Among large enterprises, new optical subscriber connections increased by 37.5% in H1 2024, with corresponding revenue growth of 34%.
About 50 medical institutions and over 70 educational establishments were connected to high-speed optical internet. As of early July, Ukrtelecom’s optical network serves 1,284 medical institutions and 1,752 educational establishments.
Losses from the full-scale war
During the full-scale war, the company lost several real estate objects in the temporarily occupied areas, with over 280 company’s buildings damaged and more than 50 completely destroyed.
Preliminary assessments show that Ukrtelecom’s direct losses, including destroyed buildings, lost equipment, damaged telecommunication networks, and other assets in the temporarily occupied territories make around UAH 700 million.
The overall destructive impact of Russian aggression on Ukrtelecom amounts to UAH 2.8 billion. This figure is primarily attributed to the economic devaluation of operational assets.
Restoration work is ongoing after continuous enemy attacks on civilian infrastructure. Ukrtelecom coordinates with the State Emergency Service and the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Once necessary measures are taken, emergency restoration teams of the company and contractor organisations work to restore communication services.
