The distribution system operators of our energy company DTEK renewed 37 energy facilities in Kyiv and in the Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Odesa regions during the first half of 2026. This is 1.5 times more reconstruction and new construction than in the same period of 2025. In total, DTEK Grids plans to invest more than UAH 6.7 billion ($150 million) in network renewal during 2026. The work is designed to prepare the networks for peak loads in the autumn and winter period and to improve the reliability of supply to households and businesses.
What has DTEK Grids done in the first half of 2026?
The electricity distribution system operators of DTEK Grids reconstructed 7 transformer points and 17 substations, and built 13 new transformer points, in Kyiv city and in the Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Odesa regions. Together this comes to 37 renewed energy facilities. The volume of reconstruction and new construction was 1.5 times higher than in the first half of 2025. The annual investment programme for all distribution system operators in Ukraine is approved by the state regulator, the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission.
What repair work was carried out alongside the investment programme?
In parallel with the investment programme, teams repaired almost 2,000 km of overhead lines and 4,600 km of cable lines, and repaired close to 3,000 energy facilities. To reduce the risk of faults and to keep supply to families reliable, specialists cleared 5,000 km of overhead line routes of trees and shrubs. Vegetation on line routes is one of the common causes of unplanned outages, particularly during storms and heavy snow.
How much will be invested in the networks in 2026?
More than UAH 6.7 billion ($150 million) is planned for network renewal across 2026.
"We continue to systematically renew the electricity networks and increase their resilience. In the first half of the year, we increased the volume of reconstruction and new construction of energy facilities by 1.5 times compared with last year. In total, in 2026 we plan to invest more than UAH 6.7 billion ($150 million) in renewing the networks. This will allow us to create a margin of safety for the coming heating season," said Alina Bondarenko, CEO of DTEK Grids.
Why does this matter before the heating period?
Electricity demand in Ukraine rises sharply in the autumn and winter period, when heating, lighting and industrial loads peak at the same time. Distribution networks are also working under constant pressure from russian attacks on the energy system. Renewed substations and transformer points, repaired lines and cleared line routes give the networks more capacity to hold up under those conditions, and shorten the time needed to restore supply when faults occur. The same work creates the technical capacity to connect new customers.
How does this fit into the wider strategy of SCM companies?
Continuing to invest in Ukrainian infrastructure during the war, rather than postponing that spending until the war ends, is the strategy set by our shareholder Rinat Akhmetov and followed across SCM companies. For the energy sector, it means treating resilience as something built in advance of each winter and not repaired after it.
