An eco-cleanup event was held on Khortytsia Island in Zaporizhia. Veterans who served in the war against Russia and now work at Metinvest’s Zaporizhia enterprises—Zaporizhstal, Zaporizhvognetryv, and Zaporizhkoks—took part in the initiative. Their family members also joined in the spring cleanup.
In total, 30 veterans from Metinvest’s Zaporizhia enterprises and their families participated in the cleanup on Khortytsia Island. Young metallurgists joined them in tidying up the green zone.
“This kind of activity is important for veterans—it gives them a chance to take a break from daily concerns and connect with civilians, especially our active youth. We planned about an hour and a half: to collect and remove rubbish and then spend some time talking over lunch,” said Serhii Petrov, Deputy Youth Leader at Zaporizhstal.
The gathering is one of many events held at Metinvest enterprises as part of the company’s “Hero’s Path” corporate programme, which helps veterans reintegrate and adapt to peaceful life.
As a reminder, more than 300 war veterans have joined Metinvest’s Zaporizhia enterprises after their military service. The company provides them—at no cost—with comprehensive medical check-ups, psychological support, extended health insurance, medical treatment and prosthetics, free education at Metinvest Polytechnic University, and much more.
