SCM’s technology businesses, ModusX and Metinvest Digital, began as forward-thinking technology divisions within our industrial businesses—steel and energy—but have successfully evolved into standalone solution providers for the wider market.
Historically, Metinvest Digital (a part of Metinvest group) grew out of the need to centralise and modernise IT across industrial assets. ModusX emerged from the IT transformation programme at our energy company DTEK. While they initially focused on building digital capabilities to support internal complex operations, they now offer this expertise to external partners. Operating as independent entities allows them to engage with new technologies and contribute to a positive feedback loop of knowledge for all SCM companies. Today, these companies are leveraging their market position to foster the next generation of Ukrainian technology startups and businesses.
ModusX and Educational Mentorship
ModusX recently participated in the fifth Pitch Day of the StartUp School at Kyiv National Economics University. The event focused on student projects developing digital transformation solutions for Ukrainian businesses. The ModusX leadership team joined the evaluation panels to assess the projects, providing the students with practical recommendations on customer-centric design, operating models, and investment potential. Through the Talentverse X ecosystem, ModusX connects universities and technology partners to ensure strong student concepts, such as artificial intelligence website builders and fintech solutions, receive the practical context required to become scalable products.
Metinvest Digital at the Rivne Invest Forum
Simultaneously, Metinvest Digital engaged with investors and experts at the Rivne Invest Forum to discuss the capitalisation of the technology sector. Their leadership participated in a panel discussion regarding the future of Ukrainian IT, emphasising that building IT infrastructure to automate complex processes is a priority for business stability.
At the forum, Metinvest Digital also demonstrated their proprietary artificial intelligence solutions. These included SPAIS, a computer vision platform for instant safety equipment recognition, and Miosiar, an intelligent document processing system that uses artificial intelligence models for contextual analysis rather than traditional templates. Furthermore, their innovation directors served on the expert jury to evaluate and support pitching sessions for veteran business projects.
By actively participating in educational initiatives and investment forums, ModusX and Metinvest Digital demonstrate a firm commitment to scaling real-world technology solutions and supporting the continued development of the digital economy.
