More than 360 new students have joined the university, an increase of 43% on last year. This shows that demand for technical education in Ukraine is growing despite the war.
Which subjects did new students choose?
Mining and metallurgy are among the most popular choices. Students also enrolled in automation and robotics, electrical power engineering, computer science, cybersecurity, occupational safety and management. Alongside bachelor's and master's degrees, the university offers eight professional junior bachelor programmes.
Who is studying at Metinvest Polytechnic?
The new students include school and college graduates, people with work experience and 20 veterans. Some are taking their first step into a profession, while others want a new qualification or career. More than 70 veterans have chosen to study at the university so far.
Why does Ukraine need a new generation of engineers?
Ukrainian industry will need engineers with modern skills. "Ahead lie the recovery and modernisation of enterprises, and this will require a new generation of engineers. Not just specialists with thorough technical training, but people who know modern technologies and digital tools, can work in a team, manage projects, find solutions and take responsibility," said Oleksandr Povazhnyi, Rector of Metinvest Polytechnic.
How does the university prepare students for work in industry?
Programmes combine technical knowledge, digital skills, real production cases and soft skills such as teamwork. Industry practitioners teach at the university, and students complete practical training at Metinvest enterprises. Students have also taken part in internships in Bulgaria, Italy and Austria.
How can students fund their studies?
Students can pay for their studies, use a voucher from the State Employment Service or apply for places funded by Metinvest. These places allow students to study at no personal cost with the prospect of a first job.

What is Metinvest Polytechnic?
Metinvest Polytechnic is Ukraine's first private mining and metallurgical university. Our steel company Metinvest founded it in 2020, and the first students started in autumn 2022. Its programmes have state accreditation. Around 1,650 people have studied at the university since it opened.
