Kametstal has expanded the digitalisation of its railway logistics through a new collaborative project involving Metinvest Digital and a joint tracking initiative with Ukrainian Railways.
Kametstal unites Metinvest’s coke production and steelmaking assets in Kamianske (Dnipropetrovsk region). The enterprise also serves as a vital supply link, providing Promet Steel, Metinvest’s rolling mill in Bulgaria, with steel products for processing.
This new digital deployment focuses on scaling up the capabilities of the Centralised Information Dispatch System (CIDS), turning the plant's railway sector into a primary environment for implementing advanced digital workflows.
Metinvest Digital began as a forward-thinking technology division within our steel company Metinvest and has successfully evolved into standalone solution providers for the wider market. Today, their expertise is driving the technical evolution of logistics management at the steel plant.
The initial implementation of CIDS two years ago established a single online platform for precise, real-time tracking of the wagon fleet. By entering a wagon or transport waybill number, operators can instantly monitor cargo contents, precise locations, departure times, technical parameters, and transit operations.
The system has now evolved into a broader integration hub. Recent updates include a successful integration with the general forwarder, Metinvest-Shipping, to verify services and prepare invoices directly for SAP. This automation has substantially optimised the time required to close accounting periods. In addition, the newly launched integration with Ukrainian Railways provides automated data on approaching rolling stock, allowing the plant's logistics teams to plan operations proactively.
The logistics evolution moved into a new phase at the start of 2026 with the step-by-step rollout of internal electronic document management. The railway transport, agglomeration, and blast furnace departments are the first to adopt the updated software. Upon the arrival of wagons at the enterprise, digital documents with comprehensive transport data are generated and verified using electronic signatures.
Moving documentation entirely online eliminates the need to transport physical paper forms between different processing departments. All control and accompanying operations are conducted directly within CIDS, which simplifies administration, cuts down wagon idle times, and ensures complete transparency across the supply chain. These continuous technical improvements support the continuity of industrial operations and international supply lines during the war initiated by russia.
