Over the four years of the full-scale invasion, SCM companies, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, the Heart of Azovstal NGO and Shakhtar Donetsk football club have provided more than UAH 14.6 billion ($392 million) in support for Ukraine, its army and its civilians. The aid covers the Armed Forces of Ukraine, programmes for the defenders of Mariupol and their families, veterans, education, civilians and communities, as well as memory and advocacy projects. Military support is delivered through the Rinat Akhmetov's Steel Front project, and humanitarian work is now brought together in Heart of Azovstal. Our shareholder Rinat Akhmetov has allocated about UAH 2.2 billion to the Heart of Azovstal project alone.
What does Rinat Akhmetov's Steel Front provide to Ukraine's defenders?
Rinat Akhmetov's Steel Front supplies defence units across Ukraine. The support includes equipment, vehicles, armoured personnel carriers, ambulances for military medics, drones, thermal imagers, sights, radios, cameras, clothing and footwear, first aid kits and tourniquets, fuel and other necessary items. Our steel company Metinvest has developed and supplied more than 900 steel dugouts for soldiers on the front line, and two underground hospitals built to NATO standards now operate on this basis. Metinvest also uses its own steel to make anti-drone cage protection for Western and Ukrainian vehicles, including Abrams, Leopard, Bradley, M113 and Kozak.
How is DTEK supporting critical infrastructure during the war?
Our energy company DTEK has provided free electricity to more than 100 critical infrastructure facilities, including hospitals, military sites, bakeries and water treatment plants in the Kyiv, Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions. Despite daily russian attacks, DTEK continues to generate and distribute electricity for millions of people, businesses and state institutions. Engineers at DTEK Grids work under shelling every day to repair power networks and substations attacked by russia. To date, they have returned light to more than 26 million homes in regions affected by the war.
What help do civilians receive from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation?
The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation supports civilians affected by the war. Since the start of the war it has delivered 700,000 units of medicines to Ukrainians, and more than 13 million food parcels since 2014. It runs projects for the rehabilitation of children and adults injured in shelling, and provides heaters and help in arranging social housing for displaced families.
What does Heart of Azovstal do for the defenders of Mariupol?
The Heart of Azovstal NGO provides comprehensive support to the defenders of Mariupol and their families through seven programmes, with about UAH 2.2 billion allocated by our shareholder Rinat Akhmetov. The Home programme gives defenders with Group I and Group II disabilities their own housing: 100 apartments are planned for 2026, which will bring the total to 400 defenders housed over three years. The Future programme supports defenders in adapting to civilian life and building new careers. The resources and expertise of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation have been integrated with Heart of Azovstal, making it the centre of the charitable work of SCM companies.
How does Shakhtar football club help?
Shakhtar Donetsk provides systematic support to children's football, athletes, displaced people, members of Ukraine's defence forces and residents of regions affected by the war. The club organised and covered the full cost of treatment in the United States for Azovstal defender and marine Mykhailo Dianov. It also arranged treatment and rehabilitation in Barcelona for Vitalii Shumei, who was severely wounded near Avdiivka, and in Israel for soldier and Shakhtar fan Yevhen Larchenko, and is helping with the rehabilitation of Bohdan Kush, a Ukrainian soldier and the brother of one of the club's players.
