In late April 2026, Kyiv hosted the inaugural meeting of the Strategic Advisory Group of the Security Architecture Forum. This international expert platform aims to develop practical solutions to strengthen Ukraine's defence capabilities, energy resilience, and overall recovery. SCM views this initiative as a critical step in addressing the complex, interconnected challenges brought by the ongoing war.
The meeting gathered prominent diplomats, security experts, and business leaders. Among the key participants were DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko and Geoffrey Pyatt, the recently appointed Chairman of the DTEK Advisory Council. Their joint presence underscores our corporate commitment to integrating Ukrainian energy systems with Europe and building robust, long-term global partnerships.
A central theme of the discussions was that national security extends far beyond military defence; it intrinsically encompasses the stability of the energy grid, economic activity, and the capacity to maintain critical infrastructure under extreme pressure. Maxim Timchenko emphasised that Ukraine's future security architecture will rely heavily on strategic investments and partnerships. He highlighted that involving foreign investors in the energy sector is not merely about restoration, but about constructing a more secure, decentralised energy system that remains less vulnerable to targeted attacks.
This vision aligns entirely with the strategic direction of SCM and the objectives of the DTEK Advisory Council under Ambassador Pyatt's leadership. The council provides independent, high-level guidance on long-term recovery and energy security, advocating for Ukraine's vital contribution to the broader European energy landscape. The war initiated by russia requires a highly proactive approach where the state and private sector plan for a modernised, resilient future, rather than simply repairing existing damage.
The Strategic Advisory Group is working to shift the international paradigm from a reactive support model to a model of joint strategic planning with international allies. As noted by the participants, Ukraine is evolving from a consumer of security assistance into a provider of practical security experience for the democratic world. The group aims to produce a set of agreed recommendations to be presented at the main Security Architecture Forum scheduled for 1 June 2026 in Kyiv. SCM and DTEK remain fully engaged in this vital process, continuously investing in and adapting our operations to ensure a stable, secure energy future for Ukraine and Europe.
