Businessman Rinat Akhmetov met in Kyiv this week with the renewed supervisory board of his personal charitable foundation to begin developing a new ten-year strategy. The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation will focus on six priority areas through to 2036: sport, children and youth, veterans, remembrance, recovery, and education.
The Foundation is building on years of sustained impact across Ukraine. Its programmes provide housing, rehabilitation, and advanced medical support to wounded defenders of Mariupol through the Heart of Azovstal initiative. Through the "Rinat Akhmetov — To Children" programme, more than six million children have received assistance, including hearing aids for children with disabilities and dedicated support for the children of fallen soldiers in cooperation with FC Shakhtar Donetsk. The Foundation is also a systematic partner in the Mariupol Housing project, equipping social housing for internally displaced families — with more than 400 families now housed in Dnipro and further openings planned in other cities. Its Museum of Civilian Voices has collected over 140,000 testimonies from civilians affected by russia's war against Ukraine since 2014, and its documentary project won a European Excellence Award in 2025.
Since 2014, combined assistance from the Foundation, SCM companies, and FC Shakhtar Donetsk has reached more than 18 million people.
SCM companies, separate to the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, paid nearly $2.2 billion in taxes and fees in Ukraine in 2025 and allocated $300 million to social programmes — continuing to be among the country's largest taxpayers and investors in social development.
"Ukraine has stood firm and continues to fight for its freedom and independence — thanks to the courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people, a strong Ukrainian army, and the support of the entire civilised world. We will continue to invest in Ukraine's recovery and, of course, to help Ukrainian defenders and civilians." said Rinat Akhmetov.
