In 2022, Metinvest Group's Zaporizhstal provided vitally important oxygen free of charge to 14 hospitals of Zaporizhia, Dnipropetrovsk, and Donetsk regions.
Since the outbreak of the all-out war the geography of assistance as well as the volume of assistance have significantly changed. On average, the company supplied 70 tonnes of oxygen per month. The biggest consumers of oxygen in 2022 were Zaporizhia city hospitals and the regional infectious diseases hospital.
"Doctors on the medical frontline save lives of thousands of Ukrainian civilians and soldiers. Metinvest and Zaporizhia are doing everything possible at these very challenging times. We provide Ukrainian hospitals with consumables, medicine, equipment as well as medical grade oxygen free of charge, just on request of medics. We continue to provide regular support in 2023 as well," noted acting CEO of Metinvest's Zaporizhstal Roman Slobodianiuk.
Medical oxygen is used to help patients with respiratory failure, heart failure, poisoning as well as surgical patients undergoing general anaesthesia. Oxygen therapy is also used to treat Covid-19. One tonne of oxygen is enough to help nearly 100 patients.
