Businesses of SCM, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, and FC Shakhtar have allocated UAH 11.3 billion ($315 million) to support the country, the military, and civilians during the 36 months of the full-scale Russian invasion.
The key areas of assistance include support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), humanitarian aid for civilians, support for communities, charitable and advocacy projects, and assistance to the defenders of Mariupol.
In addition to systemic aid, SCM and its enterprises continue to diligently and systematically pay taxes to budgets at all levels to promote and support Ukraine’s economic stability. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, over UAH 214 billion (nearly $6 billion) in taxes have been paid.
Support for the Ukraine’s defenders is provided through the military project "Rinat Akhmetov’s Steel Front." Through this initiative, military and law enforcement units from across the country receive ammunition, vehicles, armored personnel carriers, ambulances for military medics, drones, thermal imagers, sights, radios, cameras, clothing, footwear, first aid kits, tourniquets, fuel, and other essential items. Specifically, Metinvest has developed and supplied over 600 underground steel “hideouts” for frontline soldiers. The metallurgical group also provides steel for vehicle armor, including for Abrams and Leopard tanks, Patriot system shields, and produces armor for bulletproof vests.
Since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, DTEK Group has consistently supported the AFU and provided humanitarian aid. One of the critical directions is advocacy work: DTEK and Oleksandr Usyk launched the joint campaign "Battle for Light." The campaign achieved its goal: drawing global attention to Ukraine’s energy system’s critical state due to Russian missile attacks. As a result, for the first time, a private Ukrainian company secured international partner funding to protect and restore the country’s energy infrastructure. The European Commission and the US Government are providing DTEK with €107 million to ensure power supply for the Ukrainian people during the war.
Additionally, Rinat Akhmetov extended the "Heart of Azovstal" project to support Mariupol’s defenders into 2025 and increased its funding to UAH 1.6 billion. Defenders and their families receive aid through seven programs. In particular, in 2023, the "At Home" program was launched, providing housing for defenders with Group I and II disabilities. The plan for 2025 includes providing 50 apartments to the Mariupol’s defenders. Over three years, 250 defenders will receive homes. The project also implements the "Future" program—comprehensive support for adaptation to civilian life and self-realization of the defenders.
Systemic humanitarian aid from Rinat Akhmetov’s businesses and projects is provided to civilians in frontline areas and de-occupied regions. People receive food, clothing, household items, medicines, hygiene products, and more. In SCM’s cities of presence, the companies support shelters, hospitals, lighting and water sources, and more. They also assist local administrations and utility services.
Since the beginning of the war, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has delivered over 700,000 units of medicines to the Ukrainians and more than 13 million food packages since 2014. New projects have been launched to help rehabilitate children and adults affected by shelling. The Foundation provides heaters and helps equip dormitories for Mariupol residents in Dnipro.
FC Shakhtar also offers systemic assistance to athletes, displaced persons, Ukrainian defense forces, and residents of war-affected regions. The club organized and covered all costs for the treatment of Azovstal defender, marine Mykhailo Dianov, in the USA. It also arranged treatment and rehabilitation for the severely injured soldier Vitalii Shumey in Barcelona, the soldier and Shakhtar fan Yevhen Larchenko in Israel, and supports the rehabilitation of its player’s brother, Ukrainian defender Bohdan Kush. The club directed UAH 22 million from the friendly match with Tottenham to support and aid Ukrainians affected by the war. Additionally, in 2024, the club allocated over UAH 32.5 million to assist the military, civilians, and children.
