SCM businesses, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, and Shakhtar Football Club have collectively provided over $258 million (or more than €242 million) in aid to the country, military personnel, and civilians over the 27 months of the full-scale invasion.
Key Areas of Assistance are support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and humanitarian aid to civilians, communities, and defenders of Mariupol.
Military Support under the “Rinat Akhmetov’s Steel Front” project: Ukrainian Armed Forces receive equipment, vehicles, ambulances for military medics, underground shelters, self-manufactured and developed demining tools, drones, thermal imagers, electronic warfare devices, sights, radios, cameras, clothing and footwear, body armor made from our steel, first aid kits, tourniquets, fuel, and other essential items.
Additional Support for Mariupol Defenders: Rinat Akhmetov has allocated $25 million for the "Heart of Azovstal" project. Assistance is provided to defenders and their families through seven programs. In November last year, the "At Home" program was launched, providing housing for defenders with Group I and II disabilities. 100 apartments are planned for purchase in 2024.
Systematic Humanitarian Aid: SCM businesses and Rinat Akhmetov’s social initiatives deliver aid to civilians in frontline zones and de-occupied regions, including food, household items, medicines, hygiene products, and more. Support is also extended to shelters, hospitals, and local administration and utility services in SCM's areas of presence.
Rinat Akhmetov Foundation: Since the start of the war in 2014, the Foundation has distributed 700,000 units of medicines and over 13 million food packages. It has launched new projects to help rehabilitate children and adults affected by shelling, provided heaters, and helped set up dormitories for Mariupol residents in Dnipro.
Shakhtar Football Club: The club rovides continuous support to athletes, displaced persons, defense force fighters, and war-affected residents. The club organized and covered all expenses for the treatment of the Ukrainian marine and "Azovstal" defender Mykhailo Dianov in the USA. It has arranged treatment and rehabilitation for severely wounded fighter Vitaliy Shumey in Barcelona and Shakhtar fan and fighter Yevhen Larchenko in Israel, and assists in the rehabilitation of the brother of its player, Ukrainian Armed Forces fighter Bohdan Kush. The club will direct UAH 22 million in revenue from a friendly match with Tottenham towards projects supporting Ukrainians affected by the war. Additionally, since the beginning of the year, the club has directed over UAH 9 million to assist military personnel, civilians, and children.
