Amid war and regular enemy attacks on Ukraine's civilian and energy infrastructure, DTEK Energy's thermal power plants continue to maintain the stability of the Ukrainian energy system thanks to their residual capacity.
From January to May 2023, DTEK Energy's TPPs supplied over 5.7 billion kWh to the national grid, enough to cover electricity needs of 1.9 million households throughout a year. In May alone, the company's plants generated 20+ percent more electricity year on year.
"After Russia's blowing up Kakhovka HPP, Ukrainian power engineers recognise that now they bear even more responsibility for the reliability of the Ukrainian grid. Thermal power generation sector is in as well, as it comes immediately into play as the additional residual capacity if Ukrainian hydropower generation drops. On the one hand, we need to continue to prepare the plants intensively for the heating season, and on the other hand, we need to support the energy system with the available capacity," said DTEK Energy CEO Ildar Salieiev.
