DTEK Energy has successfully implemented all scheduled measures as part of its preparations for the 2024/2025 heating season. As usual, intensive preparations began well in advance, starting in the spring of this year.
“In March, Russia continued its large-scale attacks on our energy infrastructure, resulting in the destruction and damage of 90% of our thermal generation capacity. We have never had to start winter preparations under such conditions. However, thanks to the relentless efforts and professionalism of our energy workers, miners, repair crews, and engineers, who work around the clock, and through the mobilisation of all available resources, we have achieved 100% of our goals. We have already invested over UAH 8 billion in winter preparations this year, and by year’s end, this figure will exceed UAH 11 billion. We won't stop there, as we will continue making significant efforts throughout the winter to ensure a stable heating season,”
said Oleksandr Fomenko, CEO of DTEK Energy.
Engineer teams are doing everything possible to quickly restore as much capacity to the energy system as possible. To strengthen reliability, the company has invested UAH 2.3 billion in repairs and the restoration of thermal power plants (TPPs) so far this year. By the end of the year, these investments will reach UAH 3.8 billion. However, due to the unprecedented damage to the TPPs, restoration work will continue 24/7 throughout the winter and beyond.
Thanks to the efforts of miners, the necessary coal reserves for the autumn-winter period have been accumulated, ensuring the stability and reliability of Ukraine’s energy grid. Year to date, DTEK Energy has commissioned 16 new longwalls, with plans to launch nine more by the end of 2024. The company's investments in Ukrainian coal mining have reached UAH 6 billion over the past nine months, and it is expected to grow to UAH 7.7 billion by year-end.
Throughout the year, DTEK Energy’s heavy engineering arms have been providing crucial support to miners, helping them extract the coal essential for the country. Over the past nine months, they have produced and repaired 982 units of mining equipment, including 10 new headers and shearers. Additionally, engineers provided miners with 758,000 spare parts and components. These efforts help strengthen the reliability of Ukraine’s thermal power plants for the upcoming winter, ensuring sufficient fuel supplies.
For reference
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, DTEK Energy's thermal power plants have been targeted by the enemy almost 190 times. These attacks have injured 56 power plant workers, and 3 have lost their lives. Between March and June alone, the enemy launched seven large-scale attacks on the company’s TPPs. As a result of the shelling, about 90% of DTEK's thermal generation capacities have been destroyed or damaged.
