To ensure the smooth operation of its thermal power stations, DTEK Energy has arranged for an additional import of 80,000 tonnes of steam coal from Poland. Thus, the company’s total contracted fuel volume has risen to 357,000 tonnes. This increase will enhance the reliability of thermal generation and bolster the Ukrainian power system’s ability to smoothly navigate through winter and periods of peak electricity demand.
As of now, nearly 182,000 tonnes of coal have been delivered to Ukraine, fulfilling a significant portion of the contracted import volume, with steady deliveries ongoing.
“Imported coal serves as an additional ‘safety buffer’ for thermal power generation in winter months. Our primary focus, however, remains on mining coal from Ukrainian mines. Last year’s investments in Ukrainian mines were approximately UAH 7 billion, which allowed us to commission 26 new coal faces, meet our annual coal production targets, and ensure our thermal power plants have the necessary fuel supply. All these efforts are aimed at keeping Ukrainians supplied with both light and warmth,”
said Ildar Salieiev, CEO of DTEK Energy.
