Container Terminal Mostyska, a partner project of our logistics company Lemtrans, has hosted an industry event for agrarians, traders, and logistics partners in Western Ukraine. Held with the support of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, the event showcased the terminal's capabilities for the stable and predictable export of Ukrainian agricultural products. Participants explored practical solutions for shipping grains and oilseeds to European and global markets during the war.
What is Container Terminal Mostyska?
The dry port of Mostyska in the Lviv region is an intermodal terminal near the Shehyni–Medyka crossing point on the border with Poland. It covers more than 36 hectares and is equipped with railway tracks of both the European 1435 mm and Ukrainian 1520 mm standards, so that trains from EU countries can be loaded and unloaded directly. With eight railway tracks totalling 7.7 km, capacity for up to four pairs of EU and Ukrainian trains a day, and its own shunting locomotives, the terminal can plan and process trains independently. It has an estimated capacity of up to 100,000 TEU and handles containerised, grain, general, and bulk cargo, giving Ukrainian producers a direct route into the European rail network at a time when global logistics routes are changing. Container Terminal Mostyska is a partnership project of Lemtrans and Rail Trans Investment.
What did AgroDay show participants?
Participants toured the terminal's infrastructure and reviewed practical solutions for exporting to EU countries. They saw a grain elevator with a capacity of 4,000 tonnes, a liquid cargo transhipment complex handling up to 2,000 tonnes per day, and a covered warehouse of over 4,000 m², which supports the monthly shipment of up to 10,000 tonnes of grains and meals into containers.
Why does the European gauge matter for exporters?
"We offer the market tools that make logistics predictable and reliable. Thanks to direct access to the European 1435 mm gauge and modern infrastructure, cargo from the terminal travels to key ports and consumers in Europe without any unnecessary delays. This is particularly crucial for producers looking for a stable sales channel during wartime",
said Dmytro Kobzar, CEO of Container Terminal Mostyska.
Mr Kobzar added that rail is more predictable than road freight, which faces price volatility, driver shortages, border queues, and strikes.
What does the new contracting season offer producers?
The event also launched contracting for the new crop of rapeseed and soybeans, allowing producers to plan logistics in advance, reserve terminal capacity, and reduce risks during the export campaign. Yurii Buchko, Deputy of the Lviv Regional Council and Deputy Head of the Lviv Regional State Administration, said the agricultural sector remains a cornerstone of resilience, supporting the economy, foreign exchange inflows, and food security, with exports from Lviv Region continuing to grow.
