DTEK Renewables (DTEK RES), part of SCM, continues to invest in the development of Ukraine's future energy professionals. A new weather station has been installed and put into operation at the Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management at the National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" (KPI), funded through the DTEK RES Renewable Energy Laboratory.
The station was assembled and configured by university faculty and students, who independently selected the equipment, built and calibrated the devices. Installed on the roof of a university building, the station enables real-time monitoring of solar insolation, wind speed and direction, and temperature data. Students can now use this data in practical and laboratory coursework and in scientific research.
The weather station is the latest milestone in a systematic partnership that began in August 2024 with the signing of a memorandum of cooperation. In February 2025, with DTEK RES support, the university opened a Renewable Energy Laboratory and a dedicated wind energy lecture hall.
"Our partnership with Igor Sikorsky KPI is an investment in Ukraine's energy security. We are not simply transferring equipment — we are creating an environment where students become practitioners before they graduate. It is important to us that future specialists leave university already having experience with real equipment," said Vitaliy Herasymenko, Head of Engineering at DTEK RES.
"Partnership with market leaders such as DTEK RES allows our university to align the educational process with the real needs of the industry. In conditions of a shortage of specialists, we must train engineers who are ready for the challenges of modern energy from their very first day at work. Our cooperation is an example of how the synergy of science and business creates the foundation for our country's energy independence," said Yurii Veremiichuk, PhD, Associate Professor at the Department of Power Supply, Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management, Igor Sikorsky KPI.
DTEK RES is also engaging KPI students through a dual education programme that combines academic study with practical work experience. The company has already hired its first KPI student into its engineering department.
Students at the Renewable Energy Laboratory are enrolled in educational programmes in electrical energy supply systems and energy management and energy-efficient technologies.
KPI is also partnering with Ukrtelecom, another SCM company, on a separate dual education programme to train Ukraine's next generation of IT and telecommunications specialists. The two partnerships reflect a shared commitment across SCM companies to investing in the skills and talent Ukraine needs to rebuild and grow.
