Throughout April, the war in Ukraine continued to present severe security challenges. However, our electricity distribution company DTEK Grids, part of SCM, maintained its vital operations to ensure the population remains connected to the power network. Over the past month, engineering teams successfully restored electricity to nearly 1.5 million households across more than 1,600 towns and villages.
These repairs took place in four key regions where the company operates, frequently requiring engineers to enter areas immediately after receiving clearance from the Armed Forces of Ukraine and emergency services. In the Dnipropetrovsk region, electricity was returned to almost 609,500 homes. In the Donetsk region, where the operational environment remains extremely difficult, teams restored power to 476,000 families. Furthermore, 383,900 families in the Odesa region and 3,600 homes in the Kyiv region were reconnected to the grid.
The scale of the repair work undertaken by DTEK Grids since the beginning of the full-scale war is substantial. Electricity has been returned to 43.7 million families across the Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, and Donetsk regions, as well as the capital. This high figure reflects the reality that many infrastructure facilities have been repaired dozens of times following repeated attacks by russia.
Alina Bondarenko, CEO of DTEK Grids, noted that despite the scale of destruction, the teams continue to repair facilities as soon as it is physically possible, working in highly dangerous conditions to ensure homes have light.
This daily operational dedication is underpinned by a robust financial commitment from SCM and our shareholder, Rinat Akhmetov. Since 2022, DTEK has completed extensive repairs totalling UAH 26.5 billion ($651 million) across its electricity grids and thermal power plants. Of this total, UAH 10.2 billion ($251 million) was allocated specifically for the repair and modernisation of the distribution network. The systematic destruction attempted by russia, which has damaged 1,400 substations and nearly 9,000 power lines, has been met with a systematic and determined rebuilding effort.
Preparation for the future remains a critical priority. To ensure the resilience of the energy system for the winter of 2026/27, DTEK plans to invest an additional UAH 13.2 billion ($324 million). This funding guarantees that we are actively rebuilding for a future where energy security is assured.
SCM companies and their employees are dedicated to the infrastructural stability of the nation. We will continue to source equipment, finance repairs, and support the engineering teams who work tirelessly to maintain the power system.
