In 2024, Zaporizhstal, part of Metinvest Group, expanded its product range by launching six new types of sheet and coil products, addressing demand in the construction industry, railcar manufacturing, and the metal fabrication sector. Throughout the year, the plant supplied about 14,000 tonnes of these new steel products to customers in Bulgaria, Poland, Slovakia, and across the domestic market.
“Ukrainian steelmakers keep working against all odds, facing labour shortages, energy supply constraints, underutilised production capacities, and logistical disruptions. In these challenging conditions, we are not just producing steel – we are competing and fighting for our customers. Responding to market demand, we are diversifying our product portfolio with new offerings. In 2024 alone, Zaporizhstal delivered 14,000 tonnes of newly developed products to its customers. And we continue to expand our product range – work is already in progress on mastering three more steel grades,”
said Taras Shevchenko, acting General Director of Zaporizhstal and Hero of Ukraine.
In 2024, Zaporizhstal introduced four new cold-rolled steel products. Among them is S250GD coil, designed for further galvanising and coating, which is then used in the manufacturing of lightweight thin-walled steel structures. Another addition is S215G steel, developed for manufacturing open and welded metal profiles, sheets, and various construction components.
The plant also mastered the production of DC01 coil with a thickness of 2.5 mm, as well as cold-rolled sheets ranging from 2.1 to 2.5 mm in various steel grades, intended for manufacturing various structural elements and technical products for the construction industry. These types of rolled steel are particularly suited for applications requiring precise geometry and ease of shaping while maintaining adequate mechanical strength.
Additionally, in 2024, Zaporizhstal introduced two new types of hot-rolled steel: S355JR/S355J2 coil and sheet (2.75-2.79 mm thick), used in the production of electric-welded pipes and profiles; and steel sheet (5.0×1500×6000 mm) of grades 09G2/09G2S, intended for the production of structural elements for railway wagons.
Notably, in 2024, Metinvest Group’s Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises introduced a total of 20 new types of metal products in response to market demand. Over the past decade of war, the Group has successfully developed and launched the production of 422 new product types.
