A newly opened five-storey dormitory in Dnipro will provide housing for at least 485 internally displaced Mariupol residents. The first families will begin moving in this May, with full occupancy expected by June.
As part of its continued support for displaced Ukrainians, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation fully outfitted the building’s common areas, including lounges, coworking spaces, kitchens, hallways, and lobbies. The Foundation provided furniture, laptops, refrigerators, freezers, and other essential appliances.
The Foundation also furnished children’s rooms and three playgrounds outside the building. Children will enjoy a toy house, dry ball pit, board games, puzzles, art supplies, books, and outdoor play equipment.
“We’re glad to offer support and comfort to displaced Mariupol residents, especially children. Shared spaces will help create a sense of community in this new home. The Foundation will continue to support Mariupol families forced to flee the war. We’re also preparing to help furnish dormitories in other Ukrainian regions,” said Anatoliy Yevtushenko, Director of Communications at the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation.
French Ambassador to Ukraine Gaël Veyssière attended the opening ceremony in Dnipro. He emphasised the importance of supporting internally displaced people and ensuring they have dignified living conditions.
“It’s essential that this place becomes a real home for internally displaced people. Today, they’ve found housing in Dnipro. I believe they’ll succeed in building a strong community while the war continues,” noted the ambassador.
This is the third social housing facility opened in Dnipro under the IAmMariupol. Housing project supported by the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation. A similar facility opened in Kyiv in 2024.
“I’d like to thank everyone who helped make this powerful and ambitious project a reality. This is a project of care – a demonstration of what we can achieve when we come together to support those in need. Thank you for turning this idea into reality,” said Alla Bila, deputy head of the Dnipro District State Administration.
Launched in 2023, the IAmMariupol. Housing project is supported by the Government of France, the International Organization for Migration, and various Ukrainian state institutions. The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation is a long-standing partner of the IAmMariupol initiative, helping equip dormitories for displaced people.
The Foundation will continue to support the project. A new dormitory will open in Chernivtsi in late June, with more to follow in other regions.
Overall, humanitarian aid from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, SCM’s businesses, and FC Shakhtar has reached more than 18 million people since 2014.
