On Thursday, June 28th, Natalia Yemchenko, the SCM's Head of Public Relations and Com-munications, participated in the presentation of the Mariupol Reborn project at the Lviv Urban Forum. Its aim is to create a phased plan for the reconstruction of the City of Mariupol after its de-occupation. As part of the event, the Strategic and Architectural Modeling Platform was unveiled, which is the first of three project centers of Mariupol Reborn that will develop a comprehensive city restoration plan.
The SCM investment group has become the main partner of the initiative. By Rinat Akhmetov's personal decision, $1.5 million will be allocated for the creation of the Mariupol reconstruction plan in 2023. This will enable the formation of a strong expert team, the initiation of an inter-national training program for professionals, and the establishment of project development cen-ters to attract further investments. The plan itself is expected to be developed by the end of 2024. According to the SCM shareholder's opinion, Mariupol should become a symbol of Ukraine's revival after the war.
The first stage of the project implementation involved the opening of an office in Lviv, the Strategic and Architectural Modeling Platform. The platform started its work with a presenta-tion of spatial development visions from Ukrainian and international expert teams, each pro-posing a unique approach to Mariupol's revival.
In 2023, with the support of SCM, two more Mariupol Reborn projects will be established: the Rapid City Recovery Office in Dnipro and the Mariupol Reborn Academy. The work on the master plan for the restored Mariupol (a detailed urban planning strategy) will begin, as well as the preparation of the economic development strategy for the city. Additionally, a case study on the roadmap for the "Marshal's Plan" for Ukrainian cities undergoing post-war reconstruc-tion will be created. Architectural concepts for key locations in the rebuilt Mariupol, such as the theater, railway station, museum, and others, will be developed, along with the creation of a chronicle of the city's heroic defense. To attract international support for the project, a fund-raising roadshow is planned.
"Our task this year is to create a sustainable ecosystem for the revival of Mariupol, which in-cludes a strong team, platforms, and expertise centers in Dnipro, Lviv, and Europe, partner-ships with European cities, academies, and experts. As the general partner of Mariupol Reborn, SCM sees its mission in developing and publishing case studies on the development of roadmaps for the reconstruction of destroyed cities based on the principle of 'build back better.' Mariupol's reconstruction should serve as an example, a symbol, and a set of solutions for the post-war recovery of all our cities. Therefore, we believe in our Armed Forces, await the de-occupation of the City of Mariupol, and are preparing plans for its revival today," emphasized Natalia Yemchenko.
