Last year, an important gas pipeline supplying gas to Pokrovsk was damaged because of the hostilities. Metinvest Pokrovskvuhillia launched a programme to provide its employees with free coal so that they could keep their homes heated in the cold winter months.
In May 2022, the main 1,200 mm diameter gas pipeline was damaged because of the hostilities, which caused its depressurisation. As a result, the pressure in the pipe dropped from 15 to 5 bars. It was impossible to repair the damaged section, since it was in the occupied area. Many settlements of Pokrovsk Raion could have faced huge problems with heating and gas supply.
Therefore, Metinvest Pokrovskvuhillia decided to help its employees and other locals to keep their homes heated in the autumn and winter periods. The company distributed coal to people who could heat their homes with solid fuel boilers.
More than 1,500 first-category employees and 460 second-category employees (i.e. over 1,960 people) have benefited from free coal since the start of the programme, receiving a total of 7,520 tonnes worth almost UAH 48 million.
