In 2025, SCM’s rail freight company Lemtrans Group demonstrated significant operational strength, navigating the complexities of the ongoing war to transport over 16.2 million tonnes of cargo. As the largest private railway operator in Ukraine, the company plays a fundamental role in the national economy, ensuring that critical raw materials and finished goods continue to move despite the persistent threat of attacks by russia on civilian infrastructure.
The past year saw the company transport 9.6 million tonnes of coal and 5.2 million tonnes of iron ore raw materials. Construction materials accounted for 0.6 million tonnes, with coke and other cargo types contributing a further 0.7 million tonnes combined. While the security situation makes it challenging to restore volumes to pre-war levels, our logistics teams are working tirelessly to maximise throughput and efficiency. Every tonne transported represents a functioning supply chain, an operational business, and sustained employment for Ukrainian workers.
Investing in physical assets remains a priority, even amidst security risks. In 2025, Lemtrans allocated $3.7 million towards infrastructure and logistics development. A primary focus was the expansion of the terminal and container business, which received the lion’s share of this funding. This strategic direction yielded tangible results with the opening of the new Container Terminal Fastiv partnership project in the second half of the year. These facilities are vital for modernising Ukraine’s logistics network and integrating it further with European markets.
This consistent investment aligns with the strategy of SCM shareholder Rinat Akhmetov. The objective is clear: to keep export-oriented industries working. By maintaining the flow of vital goods to Europe, we do not only support our international partners but, crucially, preserve jobs and economic activity within Ukraine.
Financial stability and contribution to the state budget remain central to our corporate responsibility. Companies within the Lemtrans Group transferred approximately $14.9 million (UAH 644 million) in taxes and fees to budgets at all levels in 2025. Of this, $13.0 million (UAH 562 million) went to the state budget and $1.9 million (UAH 82 million) to local budgets, providing essential resources for the country's defence and social needs. Additionally, over $1.6 million (UAH 69 million) was paid in single social contributions.
To ensure the reliability of these operations, the Group continued its rigorous maintenance programme. Over the course of the year, 5,412 freight wagons underwent planned and current repairs. This technical readiness is essential for maintaining the rhythm of logistics under pressure. Lemtrans remains a steadfast partner to the state and the national business community, committed to strengthening Ukraine’s economic resilience.
