Levada Cargo, part of our logistics company Lemtrans, has completed the purchase of a minority stake in Eurobridge Intermodal Terminal in Batyovo, Zakarpattia region. The German corporation HHLA International remains the majority partner with operational control. The terminal is one of Ukraine's key western gateways, equipped with both European and Ukrainian gauge track. The transaction expands Levada Cargo's terminal network and strengthens rail links between Ukraine and the European Union.
What has Levada Cargo acquired?
Levada Cargo, part of our Lemtrans logistics company, has completed a transaction to acquire a minority stake in the capital of the intermodal hub Eurobridge Intermodal Terminal, located in the village of Batyovo in Zakarpattia region. The majority partner in the terminal is the German corporation Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA International), which retains an unchanged controlling stake and full operational control of the business.
Why does this terminal matter for Ukrainian exports?
Eurobridge Intermodal Terminal is located close to the Chop and Solovka border crossings, which connect Ukraine with Hungary, Slovakia and Romania. The terminal is equipped with both European standard gauge (1,435 mm) and Ukrainian broad gauge (1,520 mm) track. This allows container and bulk cargo to be transferred between the two rail systems on site, without the delays that usually occur at the border. For Ukrainian exporters and importers, this means more predictable freight flows to and from the European Union, and faster delivery towards major European hubs.
What do the partners say about the agreement?
"We are pleased to welcome Levada Cargo as an additional partner in Eurobridge Intermodal Terminal. This partnership further strengthens the regional logistics hub and contributes to building secure, reliable and efficient transport connections between Ukraine and European markets. At the same time, it expands and reinforces HHLA's partner network, creating new opportunities for integrated logistics solutions," said Philip Sweens, Managing Director of HHLA International GmbH.
"For us, partnering with one of the leading European intermodal logistics operators is an important milestone in the development of our terminal network. We are confident that the future of Ukrainian logistics is tied to the development of intermodal transportation and a modern network of logistics hubs," said Volodymyr Demenko, CEO of Levada Cargo. "Together with our partners, we are developing logistics infrastructure that strengthens international supply chains, supports Ukrainian business, and contributes to Ukraine's integration into the European transport system. This investment will provide clients with maximum flexibility, efficiency, and reliability in transportation, both domestically and on international routes."
How does this fit into SCM’s wider strategy?
The agreement reflects the strategy of SCM shareholder Rinat Akhmetov to build partnerships with leading international companies that support Ukrainian trade and exports during the war. Since the start of russia's full-scale invasion, western rail and road routes have become essential for Ukrainian producers, and investment in border infrastructure has a direct effect on the country's ability to trade.
What else does Levada Cargo operate?
Levada Cargo was founded in 2012 and provides multimodal transport services using rolling stock in Ukraine and the European Union. The company operates a fleet of fitting platforms, tank containers and bulk containers. Its terminal network includes its own Container Terminal Vinnytsia, together with the partner projects Container Terminal Fastiv and Container Terminal Mostyska. Levada Cargo is part of Lemtrans, an SCM company.
