The Heart of Azovstal project, which supports the defenders of Mariupol, and the Kyiv School of Economics have signed the Memorandum of Cooperation. The two sides are already collaborating on a project aimed at promoting veteran-centred approaches in Ukrainian communities. The initiative is being implemented in cooperation with America’s Warrior Partnership.
The main idea of our joint project with KSE is to incorporate U.S. experience focused on helping service members transition to civilian life. Using this as a foundation, we plan to develop a roadmap tailored for specific communities, with a strong emphasis on education. Our goal is to equip local communities with best practices in veteran-centricity. We plan to scale this up across the country, but for now we are launching a pilot project in Bucha and Kamianske communities,”
commented Ksenia Sukhova, Director of the Heart of Azovstal.
An educational programme for municipalities will be developed based on an analysis of veteran support programmes in Ukrainian communities and best practices from the U.S. The Kyiv School of Economics will lead the educational component, focusing on how municipalities can better support, integrate, and empower veterans.

We’ve been supporting veterans since 2018. We believe that it’s not about reintegrating veterans into society, but about preparing society for their return. What veterans need most is not privileges, but respect. As an educational institution, we will create programmes that foster this understanding. At the moment, we’re working on incorporating U.S. experience in working with veterans and designing training programmes for Ukrainian municipalities to help them better understand and support veterans,”
said Tetiana Izmailova, Head of the KSE Veterans Office.
