In order to reliably make it through the winter, DTEK Energy has imported 226,000 tonnes of steam coal from Poland since September last year.
This makes almost two-thirds of the entire import fuel volume contracted for the heating season, which has been recently increased to 367,000 tonnes. The shipments come in regularly and will continue until the end of March as per the contract, i.e. almost throughout the whole heating season.
With additional fuel, Ukrainian thermal generation capacities and energy grid can operate more reliably in winter times and during peak loads, especially when the temperatures drop further.
"Our primary goal is to ensure that Ukrainians continue to have the electricity and heating in their homes, even amidst ongoing shelling attacks. This includes the regular shelling that one of our front-line stations endures nearly every day. Additionally, we're coping with a shortage of internal reserve capacities in the energy system, a situation exacerbated by the occupation and last winter's attacks on energy facilities. To combat these challenges, we're actively repairing damaged equipment and conducting scheduled maintenance at our thermal power plants. We're also maximising coal production to guarantee that our thermal generation has enough coal supply. Furthermore, we're bolstering our efforts with fuel imports to ensure we can pass through the winter months with a greater degree of stability,"
