Despite the swarm attacks and intentions of the enemy, Ukraine has made through half of the most challenging heating season in history.
The statement was made by DTEK Energy CEO Ildar Salieiev to recognise the efforts of power engineers, miners, and mechanical engineers over the past three months.
“12 massive waves of enemy rocket attacks on the energy sector of Ukraine. Over a thousand of rockets and shells. 26 terrorist attacks on thermal power plants of DTEK Energy. Three power engineers were killed and 26 injured. Staff members of contractors and rescuers were injured too. This is the reality Ukrainian power engineers have been facing in recent months,” he said.
According to Mr Salieiev, the damage to the facilities is serious. After every attack, Ukraine does everything it can to restore the grid. Power engineers work hard to address the impacts and do everything in their power to repair the equipment as quickly as possible. They work 24/7.
DTEK Energy CEO stressed that
- over the past ninety days the efforts of the company's employees have helped generate the electricity enough to cover the average consumption of about 1.7 million families during the year.
- In addition to repairs after the shelling, the crews conducted scheduled works on four power units. Six more are to be repaired before the end of the heating season. DTEK Energy invested more than UAH 2 billion in 2022 to perform works on 26 power units.
- The company will launch eight longwalls. This enables DTEK’s mines to operate at a maximum capacity in the wartime and meet the coal needs of Ukrainian TPPs. In 2022, the company launched 28 new longwalls.
- The company supplies coal to both in-house and state-run TPPs and provided 120,000 tonnes of coal to meet their needs.
- Heavy engineering companies continue supplying the required mining equipment to coal producing companies, despite the relocation problems.
They help support the sustainability of the national energy grid and strengthen the energy front of Ukraine.
“We are half way through the heating season and we will successfully make it till the end. We must not have any illusions, it’s not going to be an easy task. We have three months ahead of us and we must do a lot to make it through this period. But we will make it happen!", summarized Salieiev.
