The situation in Druzhkivka remains tense, yet despite the ongoing risks, many people choose to stay in the town. Druzhkivka is also a refuge for the displaced from other parts of Donetsk Region. In response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has delivered aid to the city. The distribution process has now been completed.
“Lately, we’ve seen more displaced people from Pokrovsk district and Kostiantynivka. Before that, many arrived from Chasiv Yar and Bakhmut. Humanitarian aid has become an integral part of our reality – it’s what keeps many people going,” said Andrii, head of Druzhkivka’s humanitarian centre.
To support the local community, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has provided 2,000 food packages to the town. Each compact package contains the most essential supplies.
“There’s cooking oil, flour, and sugar – you can make pancakes or even bake bread with just these ingredients. It makes things a little easier,” says Halyna, a resident of Druzhkivka.
Svitlana, who was displaced from Soledar, says that humanitarian aid is critical for many in Druzhkivka.
“We rent an apartment here. Even in our building, there are many people who have been left completely on their own. Whenever possible, I try to help elderly women in our neighbourhood however I can,” she shares.
To date, the Foundation has provided nearly 13.5 million food packages to Ukrainians. The help is provided as part of the Rinat Akhmetov – Saving Lives programme.
