Rinat Akhmetov Foundation launches special project marking its 20th anniversary The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation is marking 20 years of operations. Over the past two decades, the Foundation has consistently responded to the challenges facing the country, providing large-scale support to millions of people during the most difficult times.
The Foundation’s special project, 20 Years - Always There. A Chronicle of Support, is a timeline of key events and milestones that shows how the Foundation evolved along with the country over 2005-2025. It highlights the Foundation’s extensive and systemic efforts in healthcare, life-saving initiatives, support for children, assistance for war-affected individuals, and efforts to preserve national memory.

Each year brought new challenges for Ukraine - and new responses from the Foundation. These solutions make up the story of assistance we’ve compiled in the special project: from combating epidemics to addressing humanitarian crises caused by war.
2007 marked the first major challenge - a tuberculosis outbreak in eastern Ukraine. The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation launched the project, Let’s Stop Tuberculosis in Donetsk Oblast, which later grew into a nationwide programme. Modern treatment methods and an outpatient care model helped curb the spread of the disease. Thousands of patients received support, and over 4,000 healthcare professionals were trained in monitoring and diagnosing tuberculosis. Thanks to the Foundation’s initiatives, Ukraine’s healthcare system gained an effective tool to fight infectious diseases.
2014 brought war to Donbas and a resulting humanitarian crisis: a wave of displaced people, and shortages of food and medicine. The Foundation responded swiftly by creating the Humanitarian Centre, which distributed food packages and medicines, organised evacuations, provided temporary shelter, and offered psychological support. In total, more than 3.5 million people received aid, and over 12 million survival kits were distributed.
2019-2020 brought major healthcare challenges with a measles outbreak and the COVID-19 pandemic. The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation was first to step in, procuring 219 modern lung ventilation units, personal protective equipment, and test kits for 505 hospitals across Ukraine. As part of the 200 Ambulances for Ukraine initiative, state-run medical facilities received specially equipped vehicles with advanced technology. This support reached more than 420,000 people.
Since 2022, the full-scale war in Ukraine has posed the greatest challenge yet. The Foundation has provided systematic support to frontline communities, internally displaced people, and children affected by the war, including helping orphans find new families. Another key initiative is the Museum of Civilian Voices - a Rinat Akhmetov Foundation project that collects and documents civilian testimonies, preserving the truth about the war for future generations.
Over the past 20 years, the Foundation has implemented more than 70 social programmes. Since 2014, humanitarian assistance from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, SCM businesses, and FC Shakhtar has reached 18 million people.
